The Hurley Veterinary Hospital Wellness Center is unique for our area and offers a wide range of rehabilitative, restorative, preventive, and training services. These services are not beneficial just for old or injured animals, though we've been able to help hundreds achieve a more active and pain free lifestyle. We also work with service and agility dogs to keep them in peak shape year round. Some of our clients are high energy pets for whom regular exercise facilitates better behavior. Check out our Wellness Center Services and by all means stop by and visit Michelle for even more information.

Has your pet has been edgy lately? Do they growl or move away when you try to touch them? Do they take more time to get up, or circle more before laying down? Does your pet have trouble on stairs? Have they stopped jumping up to lay next to you? Laser therapy is unique as it is not based on the development of heat but on the photochemical and photobiological effects in cells and tissues. Laser light positively stimulates the functions of injured cells. Even if the cell has degenerative changes such as arthritis, it can recharge itself with energy and begin to heal. Laser therapy energizes cell function, promotes healing of damaged tissue, and helps restore body function. This healing can occur even after metabolic slow-downs due to immobility, traumas or surgery. Laser therapy also stimulates blood and lymphatic microcirculation promoting tissue healing.
We can design a program of physical therapy for your pet to help them regain strength, mobility, and comfort following any number of setbacks; surgery, arthritis, injury, atrophy, inactivity, weight issues, or simple aging. Your pet's pain reduction and long term health and wellness are always the primary focus of our pet physical therapy programs.
Acupuncture is the insertion of needles into specific points on the body to produce a healing response. Each acupuncture point has specific actions when stimulated. This technique has been in use for thousands of years to treat many ailments and as preventative medicine in every species of animal. Clinical research has been conducted showing positive results in the treatment of both animals and humans, and the use of acupuncture is increasing. Acupuncture will not cure every condition, but it can work very well when it is indicated; arthritis, disk disease, traumatic nerve injury, asthma and other respiratory issues, skin problems such as lick granulomas and allergic dermatitis, gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea, some reproductive problems, and sports and stress injuries.
Our AquaPaws underwater treadmill provides low-impact, high-resistance therapy or workouts for rehabilitation from injury, optimal training and conditioning, improved mobility and weight loss. It offers the natural properties of water (buoyancy, resistance and hydrostatic pressure) for a rigorous cardiovascular workout with reduced impact and stress on joints. Aqua therapy with AquaPaws was also developed to help athletic and show animals increase strength, tone and endurance without the damaging effects of land based exercise.
